I've Decided to Like September Again

September is, traditionally, not my favorite month. But it's gotten pretty good over the last few weeks.

I have some pretty awesome roommates. I wish I had a picture of all of us together, but here's Tiffany and Erika when we made dinner one Sunday. We're silly.
I went to Peach Days with Joel in Brigham City. We never actually ate peaches there, but the sunset was gorgeous.

A traveling replica of the Vietnam Memorial (plus memorials for other wars and conflicts) came to Logan a couple weeks ago. Sophia and I headed there one Sunday afternoon. We got there in time to watch the riding salute. Seeing all those names... they just seem to go on and on. It was a sobering experience.

This was not so sobering, but it made me laugh.

New Years Resolution! Pluots: A cross between a plum and an apricot. Not so bad. Tasty.

On Friday night, during Homecoming week, I made the strange choice to sleep out on the Quad with a bunch of friends. The Hurd (USU's largest club. They support the sports) was sponsoring it. It was cold and windy, and I didn't get very much sleep. But hey it's all in the experience, right?

Last Sunday Joel and I went up the canyon to look at all the pretty leaves. Well, part of the time it was me pointing out the leaves and him telling me the names of the rocks he climbs. ;) Climbers are very creative when it comes to naming things. It was a lot of fun. We ended up at Rick's Spring and explored the cave there. I wish I got a picture of the spot where all the water comes up. It was so blue and clear and pretty!

I've decided to like September again. Now I can't wait for October. Wooooot!

Be Happy

Lately the theme prevailing in my life is: Be Happy. Talks in sacrament meeting, people telling me to be happy, and questions hanging over my head. Well, I think this is jolly good, because I've been told (repeatedly) that I am a generally happy person.

And yet take my attitude over the last year. It feels like I've been a blah, blah, depressive/my life sucks drama queen. I sure hope I don't come across that way to people I've just met, because honestly I'm quite a happy character.

Let me state how much being happy means to me. If you aren't happy, you've got nothing. You're only happy when you are doing what is right, and even then you've got to learn to let go at the end of the day and try to be happy.

Matthew 6:33-34 (Also found in 3 Nephi 13:33-34)

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of it self. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

I see people everyday who are looking for reasons not to be happy, and feel like they'd be much better off if they quit spending so much time looking for the bad in their lives and just accepted life for the way it is. Life is not meant to be easy, it's only going to get harder. So enjoy the ride.

Last month I stumbled on a cute little website. Did you know August is Happiness Happens Month? Honest. The Secret Society of Happy People promote it. Now imagine if there were more people out there who enjoyed life how it is and let happiness happen to them instead of shoving it away. I bet we'd see a lot less arrests, fights, wars, and executions.

Bobby McFerrin had it right when he sang the song, "Don't Worry Be Happy."

"In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy."

Even though Happiness Happens Month has passed, I challenge you all to stop worrying, and just let yourself be happy. Put away the worries and troubles and the stress they cause for just a little while. Don't worry. Be happy.
